LITTER-RELATED CODES

Long Beach Municipal Code 5.46.060  –  Illegal Distribution of Pamphlets
A citation is issued whenever an officer observes someone placing any advertising papers of any kind on any vehicle parked on public property, or placing such items on any signs, poles or lampposts, etc. on public property.

Long Beach Municipal Code 8.60.111 – Littering on Public Right of Way
A citation is issued whenever an officer observes someone throwing trash on a public right of way (any street, gutter, sidewalk or alley).

Long Beach Municipal Code 8.60.120 – Illegal Dumping
A citation is issued whenever an officer observes someone putting trash on someone else’s property, lot or business (trash not generated on such premises). This also includes putting trash or litter into containers located on public property (trash not generated on such public property).

Long Beach Municipal Code 8.60.13 0 – Scavenging of Recyclables
A citation is issued whenever an officer observes someone taking trash or recyclables out of City-issued refuse and recycling containers.

Long Beach Municipal Code 16.16.010 Littering on Beaches
A citation is issued whenever an officer observes someone leaving or placing trash, recyclables or clothes in City parks or beaches (rather than placing in receptacles on site).

California Penal Code 374 Littering (various)
Citations are issued under this California Penal Code when an officer observes various littering actions, including throwing or dumping waste on a highway, road, private property, park, river, lake or other body of water.

California Vehicle Code 23111 - Littering of cigarettes
A citation is issued whenever an officer observes a pedestrian or anyone in a vehicle throwing a cigarette, cigar or match ( lighted or unlighted) on a road or highway.

California Vehicle Code 23112 – Highway littering and illegal dumping
A citation is issued whenever an officer observes anyone throwing any substance (such as bottles, cans, glass, trash, etc.) onto a highway.
